Kadukka Porichathu(Kallumakkaya Fry)

  • 1. Kadukka(Kallumakkaya) 20 Nos(medium sized)
  • 2. Salt 1/2 Teaspoons(to taste)
  • 3. Water 1/2 Cups
  • 4. Red Chilli Powder 1 Teaspoons
  • 5. Curry leaves 1 sprigs
  • 6. Oil 1/2 Cups(for Frying)


1. Wash Kadukka and boil for around 5 minutes (or till the shell starts opening up) by adding 2 cups of water to it.

2. Take out Kallumakaya from the shell and also clean up the black part of it by squeezing the dirt out. Wash it thoroughly.

3. Mix well the turmeric powder salt,chilli powder and water and make a smooth paste. Add Kallumakaya into it and marinate for 30 minutes.

4. Keep a pan on heat and add oil and curry leaves. Shallow fry the marinated kallummakkaya in low heat. Stir in between.

5. Take out once it colour changes to golden brownish.

6. Kallummakkaya fry is ready to serve or use for other recipes like biryani or pickle
